What Is Colour Analysis?

This is a little different from the therapeutic work and I do it because I love playing with colour and seeing people enhanced by what they wear!

There is a psychological element to having your colours "done" in that, not only will you feel more confident, but our colouring is part of our basic nature; the clothes that suit us are an extension of that. If we consistently wear the "wrong" colours we are demonstrating a discomfort with who we are. When we wear our "right" colours we are actually easier to be around.

The founder of Colour Me Beautiful, Carol Jackson, developed this system of colour analysis in the 1970's based on the colour theories of Johannes Itten, an artist from the Bauhaus School of Art in Germany.

The theory is based on the colours and shades of each season; for instance summer is full of muted shades with a cool undertone and winter has clear cool tones and dynamic contrast. Spring has a bright warmth and autumn is rich, warm and deep.

Today the system is more sophisticated with room for variation; there are six types of colouring - deep, light, warm, cool, soft and clear - once we have determined each individuals dominant colouring we hone it down to two sub dominants to give an accurate picture. As Colour Me Beautiful have regularly updated and improved their system since the seventies they are still the market leaders for accuracy and product quality. We will even advise on how to wear black when it's not within your palette!

By examining an individuals natural colouring - their eyes, hair and skin tone -we can work out which palette of colours will suit that person. These colours will be the most flattering for clothes and makeup. Hair colour, accessories and even home decor can also be discussed.

What happens in a session?
A full session lasts one and a half hours and consists of a thorough analysis of your colouring and the shades that suit you the most, including how to combine colours. A full make-up in your colours and wallet with 42 swatches is part of this session.

Instead of make up (unless you want it - I have worked with a number of tranvestites) men receive an extra shirt and suit swatch.

You will be able to observe what doesn't suit you having seen the effects of "right" and "wrong" colours against your skin. For instance wearing the wrong colours can emphasise what we may be trying to play down or they can make us look pale and tired - or even older. The right colours can make us look brighter, younger, bring out the colour of our eyes and have a clarifying effect on the skin.

Overall, expect to feel more confident about what you are wearing and also expect more complements as you wear the colours that bring out the best in you.
